LAGOS, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police on Tuesday confirmed reports that four travelers were killed and four others injured in an attack by some youths at Bali village in Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria.
State police spokesman Othman Abubakar called for calm, saying that the police has started investigation into the incident.
"We are doing everything to bring suspects to book. There is no need for reprisal attack as two wrongs don't make a right," Abubakar said.
A witness in Bali village told Xinhua that some angry youths accosted and accused the travelers of planning to attack their village. They descended on the travelers, killing four and injuring four others, while seven others were missing.
"All efforts to save the travelers from the youth by a traditional ruler was in vain," the witness said.
"Travelers had abandoned this road for long due to such attacks, until recently when assurance came that things have normalized, but here we are again," the witness added.
Meanwhile, officials of Adamawa State Muslim Council have visited the area to evacuate the dead for burial. Enditem
