BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- The Russian pair of Maria Voronina and Mariia Bocharova said they felt "happy" with their victory in the women's beach volleyball final on Wednesday at the Youth Olympic Games.
The Russian team overcame Italy's Nicol Bertozzi and Claudia Scampoli 2-0 (21-19, 21-19) in the final.
"We're happy to win the gold medal here," Voronina said. "But especially we really liked the Argentinian fans in this arena. They supported us although we are from another distant country. They really understand our sport and cheered all the athletes here, like true sportsmen do."
The Italian pair were delighted to take the silver medal. "We knew the Russian athletes are really strong, so silver still feels good to us," Bertozzi said.
