URUMQI, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Snow and strong winds brought about by a cold snap disturbed traffic in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Wednesday, delaying flights and suspending train services.
Most parts of Xinjiang were hit by gusts of wind and snow as of Tuesday evening.
A total of 99 flights were delayed and three others were canceled at Diwopu International Airport in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang, as of 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, according to airport sources.
Two trains were canceled, and train services on five rail routes were suspended, according to Urumqi Railway Bureau.
The local meteorological department forecast Wednesday morning that the cold snap would continue to affect Xinjiang in the next 24 hours. North of the region is likely to have more snow while southern parts more gales.
