ABUJA, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Six people were burned to death in a road accident which involved two buses and a stationary truck on the Sagamu-Benin expressway in Nigeria's southern region on Wednesday, according to the local road traffic police.
A total of 16 people were involved in the accident, 10 of them sustaining varying degrees of injury, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps based in the southwestern state of Ogun, said.
Its spokesman Babatunde Akinbiyi cited wrongful overtaking as the cause of the accident.
Akinbiyi said two buses had a head-on collision and both rammed into the stationary truck with an inflammable substance.
A fire broke out from the trunk of the truck due to the impact of the accident, burning six of the victims beyond recognition, the traffic police spokesman told reporters late Wednesday.
The injured have been taken to a local hospital, he added.
