TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry on Thursday congratulated Afghanistan on its recent "successful" parliamentary election.
"Tehran considers it (the election) as a positive move toward establishment of democracy, security, stability and development in the neighboring country," the ministry website cited spokesman Bahram Qasemi as saying in a statement.
The votes became possible with the efforts of the Afghan people and government, he added.
Afghanistan held election at Wolesi Jirga, the lower house of the Afghan parliament, on Saturday after a three-year hiatus.
