BANGKOK, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- A total of 14.6 million methamphetamine pills were seized along the Mekong River in northern Thailand's Chiang Rai in early Monday, reports said on Tuesday.
The haul was made in a crackdown on drug trafficking in the Thai-Lao border area by military rangers, soldiers and officers from the Mekong Riverine Unit of the navy and local administrative officials in the early hours on Monday.
According to officials, the joint forces spotted two pick-up trucks approaching and stopped them for inspection. But all the occupants fled their vehicles in the darkness.
The speed pills packed in 73 sacks were found in the two cars. The forces are tracking the drug smuggling network.
