BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Title favorites Zhejiang Guangsha Lions defeated Beijing Ducks 95-88 here on Wednesday, grabbing their fifth consecutive win in this season's Chinese Basketball Association league (CBA).
Beijing raced into a 24-15 lead in the first quarter, but a three-pointer from Guangsha's Li Jinglong tied the scores in the second. The Ducks were then on the receiving end of a 3-20 spurt and trailed by 14 points at the half.
Into the third quarter, Guangsha's Ioannis Bourousis helped his team maintain their upper hand. But Beijing's American center Justin Hamilton contributed three blocks in a row to help his team close to within seven points at the end of the quarter.
Beijing kept their hopes alive until there were 90 seconds remaining on the clock, seeing Zhu Yanxi miss a three-pointer before ultimately giving best to Guangsha 95-88.
The Ducks' Aaron Jackson grabbed 16 points and seven rebounds in the match, while Courtney Fortson of Guangsha lodged 24 points and 12 rebounds.
"We held a solid defense system tonight and our attacks went well," said Li Chunjiang, Guangsha's head coach.
Elsewhere in the CBA, Jimmer Fredette contributed 39 points and six rebounds to help the Shanghai Sharks beat the Jiangsu Dragons 117-103.
In another game played on Wednesday, Guangzhou Long-Lions defeated Xinjiang Flying Tigers 106-101.
