MAIMANA, Afghanistan, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- At least five militants have been confirmed dead and the offensive launched by Taliban to gain ground in Pashtunkot district of the northern Faryab province has been repulsed, provincial police spokesman Abdul Karim Yurash said Monday.
A group of Taliban militants, according to the official, stormed some police checkpoints in Sarhouse area of Pashtunkot district late last night, triggering gun battle which lasted for a while, leaving at least five insurgents dead and seven others injured.
Two pro-government militants were injured in the firefight, the official said.
Taliban militants haven't commented yet.
