TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Defense Ministry on Tuesday unveiled a homemade advanced armored military vehicle, Tasnim news agency reported.
Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami unveiled the military truck, named Toofan (hurricane), and inaugurated its assembly line in a ceremony in the capital Tehran.
The vehicle, developed by experts at the Defense Ministry, is designed to carry out logistic and combat missions.
Speaking about the features of the military truck, Hatami described it as a personnel carrier that is capable of climbing inclines and traverses on a steep slope.
Hatami explained that Toofan is a four-wheel drive truck with protection against land mines and improvised explosive devices.
It is resistant to steel-core bullets, capable of moving in difficult terrains, driving through deep water and climbing over barriers as high as 50 centimeters, the minister said.
Toofan is also able to drive out of the kill zone with flat tires for a range of 50 kilometers.
Besides, Toofan, which drives at a speed up to 100 km/h, can be furnished with semi-heavy weapons thanks to its tailgate gun shields and turrets, Hatami added.
