OSLO, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Norway said on Tuesday that there is a higher demand abroad for Christmas trees produced in the Nordic country.
The higher demand provides possibilities for increased production of Christmas trees, which would benefit Norwegian villages and agriculture, Norwegian Minister of Agriculture and Food Bard Hoksrud said in a statement.
Norway produces about 1 million Christmas trees each year as well as about 50,000 trees from ordinary forests.
Norwegian trees have high quality, which leads to high demand also abroad, particularly for the sort subalpine fir, according to the Norwegian minister .
In addition, there is an increased potential for value creation, as about 350,000 trees are imported each year, mainly from Denmark, Hoksrud said.
