JAKARTA, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Three Indonesian shuttlers feature on the list of nominees for the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Player of the Year awards, the organization disclosed on Friday.
In a statement, the BWF said the award would be presented at the sport's annual Gala Dinner next week in Guangzhou, adding that it would provide a fitting curtain raiser to the inaugural HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.
Indonesia's men's doubles pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo will be hoping to defend their joint Male Player of the Year award they won in 2017, while Gregoria Mariska Tanjung and Apriyani Rahayu feature among the nominees for the Eddy Choong Most Promising Player of the Year. Elsewhere, Leani Ratri Oktila is gunning for the Female Para-badminton Player of the Year award.
The winners in five of the categories will be chosen by the BWF awards commission from a list of nominees, while the players deemed to be the most improved will receive special awards directly from the commission.
