BEIJING, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted the Commander Islands off the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East at 1:01 a.m. (Beijing Time) on Friday, said the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The epicenter, with a depth of 20 km, was determined to be at 54.95 degrees north latitude and 164.79 degrees east longitude, according to the CENC.
The Commander Islands are a group of volcanic islands, including Bering Island, Medny Island and fifteen smaller others.
