VIENNA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- One person died, another was seriously injured when a gunman opened fire multiple times in downtown Vienna around 1:30 pm on Friday, Vienna police said.

The police on its latest twitter update ruled out the incident of terrorism.

"We expected to deal with a specific crime. There is no threat for non-participants," said the police on Twitter.

The suspect may have fled and extensive manhunt throughout the city was going on, police said.

The area was cordoned off and policemen with helmets and bullet-proof vests were on the scene.
