NAIROBI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan champions Gor Mahia want a big margin win against their CAF Confederations Cup opponents New Stars de Douala of Cameroon on Friday.
Gor Mahia, who have bolstered their squad adding the steel of veteran Nantes striker Dennis Oliech, were relegated to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup after they lost to Nigerian side in the Champions League.
Head coach Hassan Oktay is putting everything on line to help the team qualify for the last 16 round of competition.
"When I came here, I knew the targets of Gor Mahia are big and my targets are also big. My objective is to see this team qualify for the group stages and one day soon, maybe to win the continental title. It is possible because we have a group of hungry players who want to do well and achieve big things," the Turkish coach said on Thursday.
New Stars de Douala of Cameroon coach Gerald Mbimi has warned their host of a tough encounter. "They are a tough team but we need to do our part and win by a bigger margin," said Oktay.
Gor lost on away goal after a 3-3 goal aggregate against Nigeria's Lobi Stars and the Turkish coach is keen to sharpen his striking force to score more goals.
"We should win by a bigger margin in the first leg. We have to keep working hard and improve in the finishing. We have to avoid conceding first because that will put us under pressure," added Oktay.
Mbimi said they respect Gor Mahia's achievements on the continental scene, but will have not be afraid of their attacks.
"This draw that pitted us against Gor Mahia was neither favorable to New Stars nor to them," said Mbimi.
"Each team has its strengths and weaknesses. We knew Gor of the past that of today, not much is known of them, we have bits of information on their performance in the league."
New Stars de Douala have reached the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time and are eager to prove their critics wrong. They edged out Libyan outfit Al Ahli Tripoli 1-1 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in Douala.
After their Sunday game, the two teams will meet in the return leg in Douala next Sunday.
