SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Three militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with Indian troops on Tuesday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, officials said.
The gunfight broke out at village Heff-Shirmal village in Shopian district, about 62 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"Three militants were killed today in a fierce gunfight at Heff-Shirmal here," a senior police official posted in Shopian told Xinhua. "The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained."
Gunfight in the area began during morning hours and continued until late afternoon.
Reports said a trooper was also wounded in the stand-off.
Three militants were killed on Monday in a similar gunfight in Budgam district.
A guerrilla war is going on between militants and Indian troopers stationed in the region since 1989.
