SHIJIAZHUANG, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- All five 2022 Winter Olympics venues to be held in Zhangjiakou will be completed this year in order for trial events to be staged, according to Wu Weidong, Mayor of Zhangjiakou City.
Located some 200km northwest of Beijing, Zhangjiakou will host all snowboarding, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, Nordic combined and biathlon competitions at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Zhangjiakou's Genting Resort will host the FIS Freestyle Ski and and Snowboard World Championships in 2021, which are trial events for the 2022 Winter Olympics. Preparation work is slated to start this year.
Zhangjiakou has begun 65 of a total of 76 Games-related construction projects ranging from competition venues to major infrastructure, with 11 others to be launched this year.
"Zhangjiakou will promote its 'Technological Winter Olympics Plan' this year by drafting and implementing a series of intelligent technologies, which will be applied to the competition venues, transportation system, security management and many other aspects," Wu added.
