BOGOTA, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- Colombia moved to within one win of securing a place in the Davis Cup finals by taking a 2-0 lead over Sweden in the first two rubbers of their qualifier here on Friday.
World No. 251 Santiago Giraldo dispatched 116th ranked Elias Ymer 6-2, 6-4 before Daniel Galan, ranked 228th, breezed past world No. 194 Mikael Ymer 6-1, 6-2.
Galan showed no sign of a wrist injury that forced him to miss several months last year, dominating from start to finish on the clay court of Palacio de los Deportes.
"I knew I had to use my style of play to my own advantage, capitalizing on my serve and my forehand," the 22-year-old said.
"The crowd was spectacular and created an incredible atmosphere. The band and the drums were impressive. I'm very happy with the way the match went."
Saturday's schedule will begin with the doubles clash between Colombia's Juan-Sebastian Cabal/Robert Farah and Sweden's Markus Eriksson/Robert Lindstedt. In the reverse singles to follow, Galan will play Elias Ymer and Giraldo will meet Mikael Ymer.
The winner of the tie will earn a place in the newly created Davis Cup finals, to be played in Madrid from November 18 to 24.
