OTTAWA, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Auditor General Michael Ferguson died of cancer here at the age of 60 on Saturday, according to the country's Office of the Auditor General.
Ferguson has been undergoing treatment for cancer since last November.
He was appointed auditor general by then Prime Minister Stephen Harper in November 2011 and his term was set to end in 2021.
Before becoming auditor general, Ferguson served a variety of roles in the government of New Brunswick province on the east coast of Canada, including five years as the province's auditor general.
