SHANGHAI/BEIJING, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The award-winning musical "School of Rock" will hit the stage in Shanghai on Feb. 22, marking its Asian premiere and the start of the musical's three-month China tour.
The musical will be staged in the Shanghai Grand Theater from Feb. 22 to March 17, and in Beijing's Tianqiao Performing Arts Center from March 22 to April 14.
The musical will later tour other Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Suzhou.
Based on American director Richard Linklater's hit movie of the same name, "School of Rock" presents the story of a rock guitarist who disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and leads a band of straight-A students to chase their rock'n'roll dreams.
The musical won the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music in 2017 and received four Tony Awards nominations in 2016.
The music from "School of Rock" is composed by British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also wrote many hit songs in well-known musicals such as "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats."
