WUHAN, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Among the competition venues built for the 7th Military World Games this coming October, the Dongxihu Sports Center will be the first to be put into use.
The stadium will host its first event on March 1st when newly-promoted Wuhan Zall take on Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League. The venue features cutting edge technology, including 5G.
According to the stadium's management, 5G technology not only allows for facial recognition of attendees, but also provides multi-perspective live broadcasting. The field communication system will ensure that 50,000 people are able to communicate simultaneously.
There are 35 facilities under construction for the Military World Games, including 13 new projects, 17 maintenance and renovation projects and five temporary facilities. The Dongxihu Sports Center, encompassing 138,000 square meters, is the largest new competition venue, comprising stadiums, gymnasiums and swimming pools.
It broke ground in April 2017 and will host men's football, table tennis and water lifesaving events at the Military World Games.
In addition, the stadium's football pitch uses a blend of natural and artificial grass depending on the season, ensuring that green grass is able to grow throughout the year.
The Military World Games is a multi-sports event and has been held every four years since 1995. This year's edition, to be held in Wuhan from October 18 to 27, will be the seventh running of the tournament.
