NAIROBI, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Kenya announced that it plans film exports to China in a bid to expand the local creative sector, a senior government official said on Thursday evening.
Joe Mucheru, cabinet secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, told journalists in Nairobi that Kenya is exploring co-production opportunities with the Chinese film sector in order to develop films that will appeal to Chinese audiences.
"We have put in place structures that will help Kenya's film sector grow by developing high quality films that will reach the massive Chinese market," Mucheru said during the launch of the jury for the National Scriptwriting Competition.
Mucheru also said Kenya hopes to showcase local films during the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, which will be held in China in April this year.
The government official revealed that showing Kenyan films abroad will help promote the country as a tourist destination.
