HELSINKI, March 6 (Xinhua) -- A Frontier Guard truck with 12 conscripts in its platform tent collided with a car in Liperi, Eastern Finland, early Wednesday.
The police said the truck driver was a conscript, born in 1998 and he had entered the main road from behind a stop sign. The driver of the car hit by the truck was injured seriously. None of the soldiers were injured.
Lieutenant colonel Jussi Napola from the North Carelia Frontier Guard told local newspaper Karjalainen on Wednesday that the soldiers were offered psychological support in their base. The maneuver they were involved with was canceled.
It is a common practice in the Finnish military to transport persons on flimsy truck tents. It got negative attention in 2017 when several conscripts died in a crash with a train in southern Finland.
In Finland, the Frontier Guard is an alternative for national service military training. Frontier Guard is under the Ministry of the Interior.
