DOHA, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Ma Long led the Chinese field of three into the last eight at 2019 world tour Qatar Open on Friday.
Rio Olympic champion Ma sailed past German fourth seed Timo Boll in four straight games (12-10, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8) in the men's singles second round match.
Ma will face the no.9 seed Jun Mizutani, who overcame the Czech Republic's Pavel Sirucek 4-0 (11-8, 12-10, 11-4, 11-5) into quarterfinals.
Top seed Xu Xin worked up a sweat as he overcame Japanese player Yuya Oshima 9-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-8, 13-11, 11-4 while left-hander Lin Gaoyuan, seeded second, pushed aside South Korean Jang Woojin 4-1 (11-4, 2-11, 11-7, 11-8, 13-11).
The other Chinese player Liang Jingkun fell to Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto 4-0 (12-10, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8).
Franziska Patrick of Germany upset the seeding as play commenced in the second round. Seeded 14th, Patrick edged Japan's eighth seed Koki Niwa 4-3 (10-12, 13-11, 12-10, 7-11, 12-14, 11-4, 11-6).
Chinese Taipei's 17-year-old Lin Yun-Ju stood as one of the most promising talents in Qatar as he beat Germany's Dimitrij Ovtcharov, the no.13 seed, in six games (11-4, 6-11, 13-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7).
