MAIMANA, Afghanistan, March 30 (Xinhua) -- At least 11 people have been confirmed dead and nine others injured due to downpour and flash floods in Afghanistan's northern Faryab and neighboring Jawzjan and Sari Pul provinces over the past two days, officials said Saturday.
Talking to reporters, Jawed Bidar, spokesman for the Faryab provincial government, said eight people had lost their lives in parts of the province including provincial capital Maimana and nine others injured.
Thousands of acres of the farmlands have been washed away and hundreds of families have been left homeless as their homes have been destroyed by floods, the official said.
Similarly, floods killed three people in Sari Pul and the neighboring Jawzjan provinces over the past two days, provincial officials confirmed, adding that the floods have also destroyed thousands of acres of lands and hundreds of gardens in these two provinces.
At least 32 people have been confirmed dead, 12 are missing and 29 others injured due to flooding in parts of Afghanistan over the past few days.
