TUNIS, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The first Confucius Institute to promote Chinese language and culture in Tunisia was inaugurated Wednesday in Tunis, the capital city.
The institute will enhance China-Tunisia cultural exchanges, Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Wang Wenbin said at the opening ceremony.
"This marks an important achievement as part of the implementation of the summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative," Wang added.
This institute was jointly established by Dalian University of Foreign Languages and the University of Carthage.
Slim Khalbous, Tunisian minister of higher education and scientific research, said this institute offers opportunities for Tunisian people to better know Chinese language and traditions.
The institute will be open to all Tunisian students, researchers and the general public.
