TAIYUAN, China, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Spanish coach Cesar Ruperez Garcia has been appointed head coach of the Shanxi Ruixing Flame women's basketball club inking a three-year contract, the club announced here.

Garcia was an assist coach of Shanxi in its prime when the club won historic three consecutive league titles from 2012-2015.

He signed with Russian club Kynamo Kursk in 2016 and led that club to become unbeaten Euroleague champions and runners-up in domestic league one year later.

"In the following years, we hope the coaching team headed by Garcia can build up a better Shanxi team and claim more wins to repay our fans," the club said in a statement on Wednesday.

Shanxi finished eighth in the 2018-2019 season in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association league, losing to eventual runners-up Bayi Kylin 3-0 in the first round.
