BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese scholars have stressed legislation on data security to protect national security.
"In a digitalized society, data security is the guarantee for other forms of security. Without data security, all the products and services based on information technology will lose safety support," Mo Jihong, a law professor with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said Monday.
To better protect data security, legislation in the field should be strengthened to better regulate all data-related activities including data developing, collecting, storage and updating, according to Mo.
Chinese legislators have attached great importance to data security, he said, citing the National Security Law and the Cybersecurity Law passed in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Both laws have stressed the importance of protecting data security, said Mo, adding that it is also necessary to formulate laws and regulations specifically on data security at the national level to better safeguard national security in a digitalized society.
Monday is China's 4th National Security Education Day.
