OTTAWA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland announced on Monday sanctions against 43 more Venezuelans in the government of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Before the new sanctions, Canada had imposed sanctions against 70 Venezuelan people.
Canada has recognized opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela's interim president and rejected the result of the Venezuelan election in January in which Maduro was reelected as the country's president.
On Jan. 23, 2019, President of the Venezuelan National Assembly Juan Guaido was sworn in as the interim president after the assembly declared the result of the 2018 Venezuelan presidential election to be invalid.
On the same day, Canada recognized and endorsed Guaido's position at the interim president of Venezuela.
