BANGKOK, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Forty roads in and around Bangkok's Rattanakosin Island area are being temporarily closed to give way for a rehearsal of a procession of regalia and Royal Guard troops as part of the coronation ceremonies for His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, scheduled for early next month.
Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner General Pol. Maj. Gen. Chirasant Kaewsaeng-ek announced on Tuesday that the 40 roads in and around the inner part of the capital city, better known as the Rattanakosin Island, are being temporarily closed to traffic from 04.00 p.m. to 09.30 p.m. local time on Wednesday so that the rehearsal of the procession can be orderly conducted.
Those inner-city roads include Ratchadamnoen Avenue, Khao Sarn road and Charoen Krung road, usually frequented by foreign tourists.
More rehearsals of the procession of the monarch's regalia and Royal Guard troops are yet to be conducted in the Rattanakosin Island area on April 21 and April 28 while the coronation ceremonies are scheduled during May 4 and May 6, according to the deputy police commissioner.
