PHNOM PENH, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Road traffic accidents killed at least 38 Cambodians and injured 140 others during the Khmer New Year holiday on April 14-16, according to a report from the National Police on Tuesday.
"A total of 85 road accidents occurred across the country during this year's holiday period, up 54 percent compared with 55 cases during the same period last year," the report said.
"The main causes of road accidents are excessive speeding, alcohol driving, overtaking, and other traffic law violations," the report said.
The number of the dead during this year's holiday was 38, up from 26 death last year, while the number of the injured was 140 during this year's travel, up from 81 last year.
The accidents damaged 37 cars and trucks as well as 103 motorcycles, the report said.
