TASHKENT, April 19 (Xinhua) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with his South Korean counterpart Moon Jae-in here on Friday, with both sides pledging to promote trade and economic cooperation.
"Signing of the joint declaration on a special strategic partnership today shows that our relations have entered a completely new stage," Mirziyoyev told reporters at a joint press conference following the talks.
He said that South Korea's investment in the Uzbek economy has reached 7 billion U.S. dollars so far and trade turnover was 2 billion dollars in 2018.
The South Korean president said Seoul sees Uzbekistan as an important partner and aims at enhancing trade and investment ties with the Central Asian region.
The two sides agreed on the creation of joint ventures in leading sectors of the Uzbek economy, the development of an "e-government" and the training of personnel for the innovation and social spheres.
