BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Table Tennis Association announced a strong contigent for the China Open on Monday, one day after the conclusion of the 2019 world championships in Budapest.
China clean swept the five titles on offer at the world championships with Ma Long and Liu Shiwen each taking two gold medals. The two paddlers will spearhead a 26-member team to the 2019 World Tour Platinum China Open slated for May 30 to June 2 in Shenzhen.
The Chinese team also includes Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Ding Ning, Chen Meng and other world champions and World Cup titlists.
On the same day, the Japanese Table Tennis Association also announced its line-up to the China Open. Among the 35 players are top Japanese paddlers Tomokazu Harimoto and Ishikawa Kasumi.
The China Open will be another chance for the Japanese team to challenge the dominance of their Chinese counterparts. Japan failed to win a single gold medal at the just-concluded world championships.
