NANNING, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Guangxi Weizhuang are eyeing the title of the 2019 National Basketball League (NBL) with the signing of two overseas players, the Chinese club said on Friday.
Xu Chao, vice general manager, said former NBA player Dominique Jones and German national team player Maik Zirbes have joined in the Chinese second-tier basketball club.
Jones played for Dallas Mavericks for three seasons before he joined in Jilin Northeastern Tigers during the 2014-15 season of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league, where he topped the assists table.
Zirbes once played for European clubs Brose Bamberg and Bayern Munich as a center.
Guangxi Weizhuang is being coached by Zhang Yong who led Anhui Wenyi to win the 2016 NBL title.
A total of 13 teams will compete in the new NBL season which will run from May 18 to July 17, followed by the playoffs from July 24 to August 30.
Guangxi Weizhuang will meet Hebei Xianglan in their first game of the season.
