BRATISLAVA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Sam Reinhart scored twice to help Canada win 5-0 over Denmark in Group A at the 2019 Ice Hockey World Championship in Slovakia on Monday.
With all the quarterfinalists in Group A fixed, the Canadians faced little resistance from Denmark.
Canada struck quick with three consecutive goals. Pierre-Luc Dubois easily opened the score in the first minute after Jonathan Marchessault's breakaway and pass from behind the goal, Jared McCann added another one from the slot and Marchessault redirected Damon Severson's shot to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Denmark broke on their opponent's goalie Carter Hart like waves on a rock and did not spoil his shutout.
Canada's Sam Reinhart added one more goal in each period to comfortably cruise past Denmark 5-0. The win moves the North Americans up to the second spot in Group A with one point behind Finland. Canada's final standing will be decided on Tuesday after their last round robin game against the United States.
Denmark will face off against the Slovakia who are looking to say goodbye to the home tournament with a strong performance.
