TEHRAN, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Wednesday denied that the Omani foreign minister's recent trip to Iran was aimed at mediating between Tehran and Washington over their disputes, Tasnim news agency reported.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Iranian President's Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi dismissed reports of any effort by Muscat to mediate between Iran and the United States.
Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah has paid a visit to Tehran to meet his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif for talks on Tehran-Muscat bilateral ties and regional developments, said Vaezi.
"There has not been any talk of mediation in their negotiations at all," Vaezi was quoted as saying.
On Monday, Abdullah arrived in Tehran to discuss issues of common interests with his Iranian counterpart.
Over the past decades, Oman has played a key role in mediating between Iran and the United States to settle their disputes.
Abdullah's visit to Tehran had raised hope to reduce escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
