THE HAGUE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- FC Groningen midfielder Ludovit Reis completed a dream transfer to FC Barcelona, both clubs announced on Thursday.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who turns 19 on June 1, signed a deal for the next three seasons, with an option for a further two and a buyout clause of 100 million euros (111 million U.S. dollars). The transfer fee for the move from FC Groningen is 3.25 million euros (3.62 U.S. dollars).
Reis came through the youth academy of FC Groningen and played 50 official games for the Dutch Eredivisie club. Born to Slovakian parents he represented the Netherlands at Under-19 and Under-21 level.
After Frenkie de Jong, who joins FC Barcelona from Ajax, Reis is already the second Dutch signing this summer for the Spanish giants. Barcelona also acquired Brazilian Emerson from Atletico Mineiro.
