LISBON, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's Socialist Party (PS, or Partido Socialista) won the European elections on Sunday by garnering 34 percent of votes, according to the preliminary results after 95 percent of the votes counted.
The Socialist Party was followed by PSD (Partido Social Democrata) with 23.0 percent, Left Bloc (BE) with 9.4 percent, according to the preliminary results, which was released by Europe Elects on its Twitter account.
The vote to elect the new 751-member EU assembly was held in each of the 28 EU current member states between May 23 and May 26, with 427 million eligible voters across the continent.
