KUWAIT CITY, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait will launch 5G service by mid-June, Kuwait's Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) announced on Tuesday.
Salem Al-Othaina, chairman and CEO of CITRA, said that CITRA has completed the pilot operation of the fifth-generation networks of telecommunication companies, and is ready for launching the fifth generation commercially by mid-June.
"This service comes in line with the authority's efforts to develop the telecommunications sector in Kuwait to keep abreast of the modern technological development of telecommunications," he said in a statement.
It also comes in line with the recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and international organizations specialized in the technology, he noted.
This will make Kuwait one of the first countries in the world to organize and operate the new technology, he said.
The application of this service will be a great leap for the telecommunications world where speed of internet connection will reach great lengths, he added.
