SANTIAGO, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez cast doubt over his participation in the Copa America on Tuesday, revealing he is struggling to recover from an infection in his right ankle.
The 30-year-old Chilean international, who has a history of ankle problems, said he would wait until as late as possible to prove his fitness for the continental tournament, to be played in Brazil from June 14 to July 7.
"We'll have to wait and see. I need to recover but the idea is to play," Sanchez told reporters.
Sanchez has endured a dismal time at Manchester United, scoring just five goals for the club since his January 2018 move from Arsenal.
Defending Copa America champions Chile have been drawn in Group C of this year's edition alongside Uruguay, Ecuador and Japan.
