ASUNCION, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron and Espanyol winger Hernan Perez have been named in Paraguay's 23-man squad for the Copa America in Brazil.
West Ham defender Fabian Balbuena, Bologna striker Federico Santander and Santos forward Derlis Gonzalez also made the cut, the Paraguayan Football Association said in a statement late Wednesday.
As expected, there was no place for former Bayern Munich and Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz, who was forced to withdraw from a preliminary squad because of a knee injury.
The Copa America will be played in five Brazilian cities from June 14 to July 7.
Paraguay have been drawn in Group B alongside Argentina, Colombia and Qatar.
Following is the Paraguay squad:
Goalkeepers: Alfredo Aguilar, Junior Fernandez, Antony Silva.
Defenders: Juan Escobar, Fabian Balbuena, Gustavo Gomez, Ivan Torres, Ivan Piris, Bruno Valdez, Junior Alonso, Santiago Arzamendia.
Midfielders: Rodrigo Rojas, Matias Rojas, Celso Ortiz, Hernan Perez, Miguel Almiron, Richard Ortiz.
Forwards: Derlis Gonzalez, Federico Santander, Cecilio Dominguez, Juan Iturbe, Oscar Romero y Oscar Cardozo.
