SUVA, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Fiji wants to attract more international sporting activities to rake in more revenue for the island nation.
Fiji's Tourism Minister Premila Kumar said here on Thursday that sports tourism is important for Fiji as it contributes to economic growth.
She said that such event has benefited the country as it has promoted Fiji as a tourist destination.
By holding the games for the past three years, Fiji has seen the tourism numbers going up particularly from New Zealand, she said, adding it is a clear indication that through such events, Fiji has been promoted as a good tourism destination.
Kumar said that Fiji is also eyeing the possibility to host World Rugby tournaments in the near future to boost her popularity.
"We're also looking forward to hosting the International Rugby Sevens sometimes in the future and I think events like this will actually direct us in that area as well," she said.
