PARIS, June 5 (Xinhua) -- The FIFA Referees' Committee has announced that Canadian referee Carol Anne Chenard and Chinese assistant referee Cui Yongmei will miss the FIFA Women's World Cup for health reasons.
"Chenard has been diagnosed with breast cancer, while Cui has been advised not to participate by doctors due to heart problems. The two officials will not be replaced," read an announcement on the FIFA website.
Chenard's two assistant referees, Chantal Boudreau and Kathryn Nesbitt, will be in France and will feature regularly in matches.
Football's global governing body wished Chenard and Cui a full and quick recovery, and expressed hopes that they will both be officiating again soon.
The FIFA Referees' Committee selected 27 referees and 48 assistant referees from 42 countries and regions for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, including China's Cui, Qin Liang, and Fang Yan.
