SHANGHAI, June 17 (Xinhua) -- The smash-hit French musical "Notre Dame de Paris," based on the eponymous novel by Victor Hugo, will be staged at SAIC-Shanghai Culture Square from July 18 to August 11 in east China's Shanghai City.
Set against the backdrop of Paris in 1482, the musical tells a love tragedy between a young and beautiful gypsy girl named Esmeralda and Quasimodo, the hunchback bell-ringer of Notre Dame.
The production directed by Gilles Amado features unforgettable music composed by Riccardo Cocciante with lyrics by Luc Plamondon. Since its premiere in Paris in 1998, the musical has enjoyed worldwide success.
