JAKARTA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will use the 2020 National Sports Week (PON) to convince international community related to its bidding to host 2032 Olympics, Sports and Youths Minister Imam Nahrawi said on Friday.
After inspecting stadium and facilities to host the national quadrennial multi sports event in Jayapura, the capital of Indonesia's easternmost province Papua, the minister said that the 2020 PON organizing would be a crucial factor for Indonesia's aim to host 2032 Olympics.
"We have filed in the bidding to host the 2032 Olympics. The most challenging year for Indonesia as an Olympics bidder nation to convince international community is 2020," the minister said on the sidelines of a coordination meeting to accelerate 2020 PON infrastructure.
Papua government has completed the construction of new stadium and sports facilities called Papua Bangkit sports complex, claiming it as the nation's second best after the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) sports complex in capital city of Jakarta.
Signed by President Joko Widodo, Indonesia has filed in bidding documents to host 2032 Olympics to IOC headquarters in February this year.
