WINDHOEK, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's 3X3 women's basketball team grabbed fourth place at the African Beach Games in Sal in Cape Verde, which concluded Sunday.
In the women's competition, Mali were crowned the winners, followed by Togo and Nigeria in third.
Namibia competed against nearly 20 nations and managed to obtain a fourth-place ranking, considering that this was the first time they took part in such a widely recognized tournament.
"Namibia's team of four have done a great service to the country by representing so well, despite being first-time partakers in a competition of such magnitude," said the Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) Monday in a statement.
The NBF said with support from the Namibia National Olympic Committee, next time they hope to have both genders attend and compete in the games.
The African Beach Games were first ever held for Africa from June 14 to 23. These inaugural games catered for 11 sports, 54 countries, and 1000 athletes.
