FRANKFURT, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund have been fined 46,000 euros (52,400 US dollars) for fan misbehavior in a local derby with Schalke last season.
The German football federation (DFB) announced the sanctions this Monday, saying that up to 15,000 euros (17,100 dollars) could be invested in Dortmund's safety and security measures.
In the April 27 match which Dortmund lost 4-2 at home in a major blow to their title ambitions, Dortmund fans, holding a discriminatory banner, stroke a Schalke player with a plastic bottle and were involved in altercations with their Schalke counterparts.
Fortuna Dusseldorf were also fined 15,000 euros for their fans setting off pyrotechnics in a February 6 German Cup game with Schalke.
