NAPLES, Italy, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Guo Hanyu/Ye Qiuyu from China beat Lee Pei-Chi/Lee Ya-Hsuan of Chinese Taipei 6-7(8), 6-2 and 10-8 to win the first women's doublse tennis gold since 2001 here on Saturday at 2019 Universiade.
China had grabbed the women's doubles gold in the 2001 Universiade in Beijing where Li Na and Li Ting partnered to win.
"It's a great honor to claim the title for our country," said Guo, who decided to celebrate the victory by eating hot pot with friends after going back China.
"It's their first time represent China to compete in the Universiade. We believe the gold would make them more confident in the future," said China coach Wu Shengyuan.
"It's not easy to win this gold. Our girls kept competing even the muscle spasmed," said the other coach Nie Yahui.
