BRUSSELS, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The number of spectators of Belgium's National Day parade on Sunday reached about 100,000, said William Mariel, assistant to the spokesperson of the Brussels-Ixelles police.
To mark the Belgian National Day, a large parade was organized on Sunday in the center of Brussels. This year the celebrations was held under the theme of Belgium's 75th anniversary since its liberation.
The military parade in the afternoon featured iconic historic figures, such as Belgian spitfire and WWII veterans.
F-16 fighter jets flew over Brussels at the opening of the parade and sprayed lines of Belgium's three national colours, red, yellow and black. Willys jeeps, Sherman tanks, and an impressive M7 Priest howitzer with a 105mm gun were also showed in the parade.
During the national holiday, the Belgian Parliament chambers, the central bank and other institutions have been all open to the public, while parks and venues across town are holding concerts and other activities.
The celebrations will end at around 11 p.m. with a firework show in the gardens of the Palais des Academies.
