The National Meteorological Center warns temperatures in some parts of China could reach 40 degrees Celsius.
BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Thursday renewed a yellow alert for high temperatures for several regions in China.
Yellow is the third tier in China's color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
Large swathes of the country, including most of the area between the Yellow River and the Huai River will see temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in some provinces including Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Anhui and Hunan may reach up to 40 degrees Celsius.
These high temperatures are also putting more pressure on power supplies. On July 22 and 23, electricity generation peaked at 2.254 billion kilowatt-hours, 376 million kilowatt-hours more than last summer's peak.
