GWANGJU, South Korea, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Australia set a new world record of seven minutes and 41.50 seconds to win the women's 4x200m freestyle relay title at the 18th FINA World Championships here on Thursday.
With the win, the Australian swimmers stopped the U.S. team from getting its fifth consecutive world title. During the World Championships, the United States has won seven out of the previous eight finals in the event except in 2009 when China took the title.
The U.S. swimmers finished second in 7:41.87, after a close race with the winners. Canada pocketed the bronze in 7:44.35.
China touched home in fourth place with a time of 7:46.22, failing to reach the medal podium.
